Thoughts...

As I sit here with no voice (laryngitis) I have an urge to say something.  Since I haven't posted in almost three months and can't call up anyone to talk, I figure this is the best venue to share a few thoughts.  In the past few months I have travelled to Cuba, bought a new car and have spent a lot of time pondering life (but then again aren't I always?).

Cuba was lovely.  Exactly the break my babe and I needed from our hectic lives and to get us through the even more hectic time the was yet to come (currently in progress).  We stayed in Varadero and I would go back in a heartbeat!  What wasn't to enjoy?  An abundance of cocktails, sunshine and zero responsibilities.  I would have to say the highlight of our trip was the day we spent in Havana.  I find the history and culture fascinating.

I am loving my new car.  Her name is Esmeralda...she's a Fiesta.  It's nice to be driving something reliable.  I also love all the Bluetooth techy stuff...so I can talk on my phone legally and listen to my music:)  I was also able to sell my Nissan and make a few bucks off of it.  I am very proud of myself for doing the responsible, grown-up thing to do with the extra dough...paying off my credit card, which would have NEVER happened a few years ago!

These recent days have been quite busy.  The daily grind is busy enough but picking up the slack in the household chores department for my dear bf who is working his tail off has added a bit of extra work to my daily routine.  I've got no right to complain...and I am not.  J is on his 25th consecutive work day and is also going to school two evenings a week on top of that.  The only complaint I've got is that I am missing him a bit.  That paired with the fact that my closest friends have been largely out of reach (mostly away in different parts of the country/world) had me feeling a bit bummed too.  To cheer myself up I did what I do best.  I went shopping.  The spring weather had me inspired and wanting some cheery new duds...so cheery new duds I got.  I also went on a mission to find some comfy, non old lady shoes that wouldn't totally break the bank (why are all the comfy shoes so ugly and expensive???).  I think I succeeded.  They are totally plain but are just what I needed for work.  I also thrifted a few good finds which always makes me happy.

I have been back on a little bit of a jewelry making kick.  I made some beaded bracelets and am in the process of making some "grown-up" friendship bracelets.  As the spring weather approaches so does a time of job uncertainty which is never any fun.  June through August can be very stressful for us non-permanent teachers if we let it get to us.  I am hoping to balance the stress with some summer projects (furniture refinishing, crafting), beach-going and a visit to Montreal to see my best friend and her son who is undergoing his second bone marrow transplant (not exactly a stress free situation, but I miss them oh so much and will be very happy to see them).

I am hoping that this weekend I will maybe get to see my mom and a very dear friend who hopefully will become a mom in the next day or two!

Summer To-Do List

Now that it's the last week of school and the first full week of summer I have officially got summer fever.  I can't stop thinking about all of the fun things I want to do this summer.  Already it seems that my weekends are filling up.  Here are a few things that I had in mind to make my summer complete:

1.  Multicultural Festival (ate my way through China, India and Sri Lanka)
2.  Volunteer at the Max McKeen Martin Foundation Golf Tournament (to support children with immune disorders)
3.  Tandem bike ride and picnic with my sweetie (no tandem, but a sweet ride to Point Pleasant Park)
4.  Patio hopping(Foggy Goggle, Lower Deck)
5.  Beer Fest
6.  Busker's Festival
7.  Camping (Demon's Point, Fundy National Park)
8.  Al Fresco Film Festo avec Johnny Depp
9.  Lunenburg Craft Festival and Beer Garden (skipped the beer part and just hung out with my BFF)
10.  Beaching,  drifting out to sea on a floatie at least once(Hirtle's, Crystal Crescent,Conrad's).
11.  Break in my new bike
12.  Zip Lining
13.  Rafting
14.  See fireworks (from the deck of a tallship!)
15.  Roast marshmallows and hotdogs
16.  Gardening (aka taming the jungle growing along my walkway)
18.  Try new wines and make delicious cocktail concoctions
19.  Find a friend with a boat and get myself on it (I think this still counts even if you pay to go on a tour of the Halifax Harbour)
20.  Read some absolute brain fluff
21.  Road Trippin' around this beautiful province
22.  Do some geocaching
23.  Girl's night on my patio
24.  Get a vintage inspired bathing suit
25.  Bonfires
26. See a drive in movie

As I complete these things I'll check 'em off and see how many I can get done:) Anything else fabulous that I am forgetting?  What are y'all doing this summer?

A is for Art and Apples

There are lots of times that I wish that I wasn't a sucky photographer.  This is one of those times.  I in part blame my regular 'ol camera...and then I of course blame myself for obviously having no idea what I am doing.  Last night I attended the Halifax Nocturne Art at Night event and was amazed at how this city came to life.  I would love to show you some great pictures of the awesome stuff I saw but you will have to settle for a few shitty ones that don't do it justice.  This was my first year attending this event (which I believe is in it's fourth year) and I was floored with the talent and energy displayed in this city.  I only saw a fraction of what was going on but loved every second of it.  From Samba music, circus acts, gallery exhibits, theatre, interactive art...this event had it all.  It has very quickly moved to the top of my list of things one must do in this city.  I can't even begin to describe the vibe in the city last night...so positive...so happenin'...the city and the event coordinators should be proud!

Today I also had the pleasure of going to the Valley with my girl Ali and had a blast picking a tonne of apples and getting our Halloween pumpkins.  I also love the valley, particularly the town of Wolfville this time of year.  It is just so beautiful!  I can't wait to carve my adorable pumpkin and get to baking some delicious apple treats!  I am sure I will keep ya posted on what I make:)

A Great Day to be Inside

It's a rainy day here in Halifax and really I couldn't be more pleased.  I have on my comfy rainy days clothes(leggings, because they look cute with my rainboots and a flowy tunic top) and am gonna do some crafting.  I know two special boys with birthdays this month and I really want to make them each something special for their first and second birthdays.  I also have been on a roll making tonnes of Christmas cards and I want to continue on with that.  I got the most awesome paper the other day and I am so excited to use it.  It is an adorable vintage inspired pack from Cosmo Cricket and has the jolliest little Santa's and best retro designs I have seen in scrapbooking paper thus far.  I love me an old fashioned jolly Santa!

So I am off to make little Harrison's birthday bear and Jude's cowboy doll.  I may even pop in one of my go-to favorite 80's movies to top off this glorious rainy Sunday.

Entertaining Myself When the Sun Refuses to Shine

Blech.  It has been dreary around these parts.  At first I was trying to stay positive and view all this rain as an opportunity to get some things done around the house and work on some projects but I have officially had enough.  Here's how I've been entertainin' myself:

1.  Goin' to Beer Fest and drinkin' lots of beer from a tiny mug.

2.  Going to the Museum of Natural History with Cute Face and his momma. Bzzzzz.

3. Sewin' up owlies.

4.  Blingin' out my nails.

5.  Finding even more plates for my plate wall and other junk I don't need:)

I have no shortage of things I could and should be doing indoors...but that being said...I am desperately seeking some sunshine!
