My Room on Teenage Bedroom

I submitted my bedrooom photos to Teenage Bedroom and they posted three of them!  I know you can see them right here but it is neat to see them on someone elses blog:)  As of right now they are the second submission from the top.

My Teenage Bedroom

I came across the site Teenage Bedroom last night via Apartment Therapy.  It really got me thinking about the chaotic crazy room I lived in from the age of 14 through 17.  When I was in grade 8 my family moved into a new house.  Since I was a dramatic 14 year old and the move meant I had to switch schools my mother let me do a few things she wouldn't normally, like get my own personal phone line and do whatever I wanted to my room.

 I have great memories of my friend Steph and I painting an underwater scene on one wall, writing ridiculous things on my "graffiti wall" and a giant Barney the dinosaur poster on one of my collage walls.  It was a ridiculous bedroom but I loved being allowed the freedom to express myself in whatever way I wanted.  I think my friends may have been a little jealous as they went to bed in their fairly proper rooms. 

So with out further adieu...here is my room circa 1994.

Things to note: The mermaid with huge boobs, the odd little door that lead to my cubby hole(one of the best parts of my room), my toddler rocking chair and creepy porcelain doll.

 Things to note: Cow spotted pillow case, foot prints on the wall, the proclamations of love that are crossed out and awesome sayings like "Madder than a hippo with a hernia"...dear lord...how embarrassing!

Things to note: Many little hand painted crafts, little hand stitched dolls and books.  All things I love to this day!

Things to note: The most disgustingly ugly carpet in the history of carpet, the Barney poster stolen from my then toddler brother and royal blue bean bag chair.
 

By the time I was 17 I decided that I was too mature for all this and painted over it all with a buttercup yellow (word of warning, don't write on your walls with sharpies, it is a bitch to paint over and takes like 6 coats to cover it) and got a white and floral duvet and matching curtains....so my bedroom was back to boring but also a good representation of me.  You will still find elements of both these rooms in my current house, both the chaotic and subdued and I think it works quite nicely!

You should definately check out the Teenage Bedroom site.  It is fascinating. As creepy as it sounds I could spend hours looking into the bedrooms of teenage girls(which isn't creepy because I used to be one, right?).

Plate Wall Progress

My plate wall is 83.3% done.  10 of the 12 plates are hung and look great.  I would be completely done but I am having issues with two of the plates.  I opted to use adhesive eye hook thingys instead of those ugly wire hanger thingys and they didn't stick to two of the plates very well.  The good  news is I thought that this might happen (since when I do a project anything that can go wrong often does) so when I hung them up I put soft blankets and pillows on the floor should any of them fall of and of course two did.  I think one fell off and took the other one down with it.  I am glad they didn't break eachother.  Anyhoo I have to work this evening so tomorrow morning I am off to buy more adhesive thingys and give it the old college try one more time.  If that doesn't work then it'll be time to move on to plan b.

I included this one because it has an old fire king dish that I actually have.  The white one with gold trim to the right of the "J".  I didn't include mine in my plate wall....should I have?

I like the contrast of the black and whiteplates and the rest of the colour...but my plates are colorful!

I don't love this one.  Too new.  I only included it because I have a blue version of the bird plates on my wall(my only non-vintage plate).

I like the cow plate.  The table cloth would probably make me dizzy!

The thing I like about this little project is that it can be on going.  I find a plate, I like it, I add to my wall.  Easy peasy!

What I'm up to...summer projects and such!

Now that the golf tournament is done for this year I really want to get some of the projects done that I have been meaning to do for some time now.  Some things that I want to do are kind of mundane things that need to be done around here but I also want to get back into some more creative projects.  I really haven't done much of anything in that regard since the winter and I am getting the sewing itch again.

I think my first major household project that I am going to do is get my plate wall started.  I have some really cute/pretty/funny plates that I am going to hang in my dinining/craft room.  I am going to try to post about that really soon....hopefully all goes well.

I also want to make some new dollies and some tiny little cute felt things.

In the meantime I will leave you with some of my lastest thrift shop finds.  Don't hate!  I know you are burning up in jealousy;)

A sweet little floral thingy that I am going to use to hold magazines.  I think it may have been used originally as some sort of knitting caddy...I may be wrong though.

( It is next to my tv and and find myself fixated on the kitty's arm movement more often than the tv).

So today instead of burning myself into a further crisp I am going to get some of this stuff done!  I will let you know how much progress I make!
